This past Friday, Marrissa Nadler and Brie Sullivan played at UCONN sans Luke Temple. Despite a few mishaps,

"WHUS was not slacking in the slightest in their quest to bring music to the fairy people...Sullivan's honey-covered, full-throated voice drifted out on songs as melancholy as the blues enveloping the stage......(and) Nadler...listed songstresses Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush among her greatest influences. Bush's influence was especially apparent in her voice, which stroked the roof beams of the Student Union ballroom like the cries of an ersatz Appalachian Tree Nymph with heartwood sap running down her dress....Although the evening was cut short by Temple's car troubles, the audience seemed satisfied by their visit to the fatal flower garden"- The Daily Campus

Llama Tsunami & The Without Helmet, joined me in counting down the top songs released in 2008. I can't think of a better way! Ooodles and doodles of thanks dudes (and dudette, for the lovely Maria)! Hrrrmmmph! Some many good albums this year, but so little time. Shame. I couldn't pick just one (26 was hard) so an order wouldn't do justice. Honorable mentions you won't find on tonight's playlist include: Vampire Weekend, No Age, Beck, Mogwai, The Kooks, & Hot Chip. Also 2008 was a good year for re-releases. As for 2009, I am predicting Dan Deacon and Peter, Bjorn, & John will be on this list this time next year....time will tell.
